Vinegar Girl, by Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Anne Tyler, is a retelling of Shakespeare’s play, The Taming of the Shrew. The novel, one in a series from the Hogarth Shakespeare project, is described by the project’s editors as “an inspired, witty and irresistible contemporary take on one of Shakespeare’s most beloved comedies.”
About the Book:
Kate Battista feels stuck. At 29, she is still at home, keeping house for her obsessive scientist father and her pampered younger sister, Bunny. Things can only get worse when her father hatches a plan: Kate should marry his brilliant young lab assistant, Pyotr, who is soon to be deported. Kate furiously rejects the idea—at first—but will her father and her suitor wear down her resistance?
About the Project:
The Hogarth Shakespeare Project presents the Bard’s works through imaginative retellings by some of the world’s most esteemed novelists. Launched in 2015, books are planned through 2021. Current plans include publication in 20 countries. (See http://hogarthshakespeare.com for further details.)
