As many people know, Katharine Houghton Hepburn was born in Hartford, Connecticut. Some of her nicknames were "First Lady of Cinema," "Kate," and "The Great Kate." Although she was schooled at home for part of her education, she did attend Bryn Mawr College, where she got her first taste of acting by appearing in many of the school's productions. After appearing in several Broadway shows, film offers followed, and she was cast opposite John Barrymore in her first film role, A Bill of Divorcement (1939).
