Deborah Goodrich Royce’s Ruby Falls is a nail-biting tale of a fragile young actress, the new husband she barely knows, and her growing suspicion that the secrets he harbors may eclipse her own. 

On a brilliantly sunny July day, six-year-old Ruby is abandoned by her father in the suffocating dark of a Tennessee cave. Twenty years later, transformed into soap opera star Eleanor Russell, she is fired under dubious circumstances. Fleeing to Europe, she marries a glamorous stranger named Orlando Montague and keeps her past closely hidden. Together, Eleanor and Orlando start afresh in LA. Setting up house in a storybook cottage in the Hollywood Hills, Eleanor is cast in a dream role—the lead in a remake of Rebecca. As she immerses herself in that eerie gothic tale, Orlando’s personality changes, ghosts of her past reemerge, and Eleanor fears she is not the only person in her marriage with a secret. . .

Deborah Goodrich Royce’s first novel, Finding Mrs. Ford, debuted in 2019 to rave reviews. She divides her time between the Northeast and Florida, where she writes, reads, watches lots of movies, and spends time with her family.

Deborah serves on the governing and/or advisory boards of the Avon Theatre, the American Film Institute, New York Botanical Garden, the Greenwich International Film Festival, the Greenwich Historical Society, the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach, the Preservation Society of Newport, and the PRASAD Project. She and her husband have restored more buildings than she can count, including the Ocean House Hotel and the Deer Mountain Inn.

Deborah holds a BA in French and Italian from Lake Erie College and an honorary doctorate from the same institution. In an earlier life, she was an actress in film and television and a story editor at Miramax Films. Ruby Falls is her second psychological thriller, and she owes a debt of gratitude for its inspiration to Daphne du Maurier and Alfred Hitchcock.

Cameron Kelly Rosenblum grew up in Darien, Connecticut. She studied English literature at Kenyon College and earned a Master’s in Education at Lesley University. Her time as a teacher and children’s librarian inspired her to write for young people. The Stepping Off Place is her debut novel. Cameron lives near Portland, Maine with her husband, son, daughter, two dogs, and a cat.

Join us in support of  Waste Free Greenwich’s Save the Food Challenge with a cooking demo and discussion with  Lindsay-Jean Hard, IACP award-nominated author of Cooking with Scraps: Turn Your Peels, Cores, Rinds, and Stems into Delicious Meals. Lindsay-Jean will teach us how to transform often discarded food scraps into delicious and surprising culinary creations. Discover waste-reducing tips for storing and preparing meals. You can cook along with Lindsay-Jean as she creates a mouthwatering Carrot Top Pesto.

Cooking with Scraps grew out of the Author’s Food 52 column of the same name.  Lindsay-Jean received her Master’s in Urban Planning from the University of Michigan and currently works at the acclaimed Zingerman’s Bakehouse in Ann Arbor, where she shares her passion for great food, sustainability and community.

Join Perrot in welcoming celebrated author Rachel Cohen for a virtual discussion of her book, Austen Years: A Memoir in Five Novels. Cohen is a Professor of Practice in the Arts in the Creative Writing Program at the University of Chicago. Her essays on artists and writers have appeared in publications including The New Yorker, The Guardian, The London Review of Books, Art in America, Apollo Magazine, and Best American Essays. In Austen Years, Cohen hopes to provide "a nice reflective space for people going through unprecedented anxiety and real losses. I hope it's a quiet space to think. That's a lot of what I found in Austen." Named one of The Globe and Mail's Best Books of 2020, The New York Times Book Review calls Austen Years "a thoroughly authentic, smart, and consoling account of one writer's commitment to another."

As the United States prepares to inaugurate a president after the divisive 2020 election, our better angels are begging for our attention, begging us to refocus our intentions on our country and what it stands for. In that spirit, Perrot Memorial Library and The Greenwich Pen Women offer What Unites Us: Reflections on Patriotism as the first book discussion of 2021. 

Through essays, profiles and personal experiences, intrepid journalist Dan Rather and his collaborator, Elliot Kirschner, examine patriotism through the dimensions of freedom, community, exploration, responsibility and character. Each section, each vignette, each story seeks to lift our national conversation out of our entrenched differences and to focus instead on shared values and experiences underpinning patriotism in America. 

Dan Rather sets the stage eloquently: 

Perhaps the path to what unites us could be paved with a recommitment to citizenship. ... Our times require a modern sense of citizenship. Citizenship is not merely a collection of conferred rights but a compact with each other to work for the well-being of all, to engage with our civic institutions, to support our schools, the democratic process, and the health of our environment.

What Unites Us is a mother lode of challenging and inspirational discussions, with stories and images that remain in our heads and hearts. Bring your favorite passage or experiences to an adult conversation on patriotism, citizenship and the experiment that is the United States of America.

Join local artists, Justine and Jenny Goggin, for a night of holiday songs and stories, accompanied by guitarist, Tommy Song. From carols, to standards, to favorite radio tunes, the trio will share the songs that make their hearts warm with holiday magic.

Jenny Goggin is a writer and singer. She graduated from Columbia University in 2020, where she studied creative writing. She writes and produces songs. Follow her on Instagram @jennygoggin for some original music.

Justine Goggin is a vocalist and actor. She is the proud founding Artistic Director of The Sappho Project, a non-profit focused on bringing gender equity to the musical theater industry. Education: Dartmouth College, 2018 cum laude www.justinegoggin.com IG: @justine.goggin

Tommy Song is an artist and academic. Currently working as a research assistant at Columbia and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. He graduated from Columbia College this past May with a degree in history and political science. He writes about the global intellectual history of anti-racist thought and the conceptual history of race. As a musician, he writes and records original acoustic music.
